about us
Years ago, one early morning I was out walking with my one year old son. We came upon two old Mayan men dressed in the colorful and exotic native clothing of Solola in the highlands of Guatemala.
One carried a huge wooden drum, the other a guitar. They were Mayan musicians who had been hired to play at a party that had gone on all night. Clearly, these two had consumed their pay in alcohol.
They stopped, stared, and to my surprise, burst into hysterics. "Is he your son?" one asked between giggles. I assured them he was; which set off more fits of laughter. "He's a beautiful boy. Take good care of him". I thanked them, said I would, and they stumbled on.
They meant no harm; indeed their laughter was infectious. They simply found the sight of a gringo and his young son utterly bazaar.
I never thought of myself or my son as all that peculiar; certainly not hysterically so, but I guess it depends on your point of view.

At Radio in Paradise we explore that different point of view.
We hope you enjoy it.
